How I Got My Name

Hey guys, so sorry that I haven't been visiting any of your blogs for over FOUR days! I have been SO busy with my top secret project, it's been so difficult to find any time to visit you all. I've been working on it day to night & night to day, my head is almost going to explode BUT the good news is, it's 97.92% done!! You won't believe how amazing it looks right now. I will reveal it to you all once it's done & my flashing box comes back from the repair man. Yes, the black flashing box is being repaired. The lens isn't working good. I hope it will be fixed soon!

So since I can't post up any new recent pictures of Yours Truly, I thought I'd post up an old one of me in my pajamas & do a post on how I got my name for Reilly's new contest! OOOH I'm so excitered!! Hoomie Melissa's mom was the one who came up with my very unique name so she will be the one telling you all the story. Here goes...

"I wanted an over-the-top ultra-feminine fantasy princess-like name for this most heart-meltingly beautiful puppy I had ever seen in my life our first dog ever. I thought of Tiara in the beginning, inspired by Tiara Jacquelina, a Malaysian celebrity but then Tiara is also the name of a pesky little Malaysian-made car that people didn’t think much of. The car’s out of production by the way.

So I thought again and remembered a friend
or more to the point an office mole and A1 politicker in Brunei by the name of Jennifer who named her first child Amber. (She had been toying around with a few names in the nine months that she was pregnant and asked us what we thought of possibilities like Star or Blaze or some other outrageous moniker. She always wanted to be different and said if named Star, the child would not have to spell it out, she’d only have to draw the symbol for people to know what it meant. Well, I never liked Jennifer but I had to give her points for being zany). Anyway, nine months later, she named her baby Amber Rain.

Now Amber sounded quite nice to me and it also made sense. A Golden Retriever, is, after all, amber in colour. Amber is also a semi-precious stone with therapeutic qualities, or so they say. So I decided Amber it would be. But just Amber? No, I wanted to make it unique. You see, I have this made-up family tradition about adding a hyphen to all my girls’ names. For instance, Melissa. It must have a hyphen and then a second name which makes it Melissa-Jane. (Amber’s puppies too, named by moir, carry on this tradition like Lara-Chantelle, Megan-Joy, Tia-Liana). And so, Amber’s name must have a hyphen and a second name. I thought of Mae, not May or Mei (as it would be spelt in Malaysia) but Mae, as in Mae West. I must say that Amber has lived up to her namesake because she’s turned out to be such a sassy screen siren and legend as well. And there you have it – Amber-Mae. Actually Amber’s full name (although seldom used) is Tiara Amber-Mae. Rolls off the tongue nicely, don’t you think? I still like the Tiara bit, even though it has ‘automotive connotations’, but who cares - my willful, drive-you-up-the-wall, nutty but absolutely adorable princess will always and forever, wear her crown."

Great story innit? Hope you liked it. OK now I really gotta go visit all your blogs!

So much thinking has gone into your name, Amber-Mae and no wonder that's a beautiful name! Our humans get the headaches coming up with names for us!

Thanks for your comment and suggesting that we participate in the dancing competition. We are really not that good yet and we have a long way to go. Diana said our first and main problem is we have not been socialised well and we get all excited in public places like in the park. She has planned to work on that. Our daily training is more like playtime for us and not so much as training for events, that would be hard work.

hey Amber,

What a super story! I love your full name, "Tiara Amber-Mae." Perfect! And your grandma is right, it rolls of the tongue beautifully. And it definitely is the perfect name for you!

My human thinks it is very cool that your grandma thought of hyphenated names for all of her daughters. Very creative, and such pretty names!

Thank you for sharing such a special part of you!
